I ran my first 5k this past week! To most people that not a huge deal, but for me it is! I used to run in track while I was in middle school and then in 9th grade. However, because i'm not a huge fan of sports competition, I decided to pursue other things.
I was so reluctant to run in this year's Torchlight 5k, but it is put on by my company, Life Time Fitness, and I was *slightly* pressured by my coworkers to join in on the fun. I just figured I would take it for the team, and I could always walk if I really wanted to. I haven't ran a mile straight... probably since the 9th grade in High School (I am now 26 years old). Don't get me wrong, I'm in pretty great shape because I enjoy working out, but that usually consists of an elliptical and free weights.
Guess what, I RAN THE WHOLE THING! My feet were pretty sore but when I think about it, it really wasn't that hard! I would TOTALLY do it all again today! That race was a huge confidence booster for me. Now I really feel confident that I could train successfully for a triathlon in the nearer future. Below is a photo of most of my team right before we ran. I'm on the far right :-)
